Bafa Lake and around the lake was the place of the civilizations. Starting of the civilizations is based on the Stone Age. After researches, nearly 50 cave pictures found. The Karian people, who lived at 10th century, built old Latmos city. They earned money from marbles. Historical Miletus city and Apollon Temple (Didyma) were built with the region's marbles.
Until Hellenistic Age, Lidyans and Persians lived in this region. After Ýskender came at BC 3rd century, Pleistarch established the city. At this time old Latmos city became a ruin and used as a Necropolis.
At our walkings, we see the ruins of the old Latmos city before we arrive to Heraklia. You can see the Karia tombs, terraces, stairs, rocks, and house kinds. When you go 150m up from the rocks, you can see these beauties. You can arrive to castle walls after walking 2 hours (6,5km). The city that has been enlarged at Rome Age is still standing. Our walking ends at the Moon goddess Selene and shepherd Endymion legend.
In AD 4th century, the alluviums that Meander River brought created the Bafa Lake and Miletus lowland. In 8th century, after Arabic invades, many monasteries were built by Christians that came from Syria and these Christians lived in this region then moved to Patmos island. The region left the place to authentic CLUB NATURA OLIVA from old civilizations. The holiday village that is peaceful with the nature has a sky full of stars that the nature gave. |
